help with skimmer

hi i have an mtc tm 3000 skimmer on my 72g which i setup on tuesday. so far it has only taken out white foam, is there something that im missing? i thought i would see a bunch of brown stuff coming out.

What else are in the tank other than 3 day old water and a skimmer?

lol theres 70 pounds of live rock and sand. i was told to start the skimmer right away so i was under the impression that it was to take stuff out of the tank. is it kind of pointless to have the skimmer running right now?

You should have the skimmer running to take out all the dead stuff on your "live rock", it will be pulling out brown stuff once it is tuned and ready.

When you start adding fish then you will see the full potential of the skimmer.
