Once upon a time, I bought three cute little halloween hermit crabs from New World Aquarium. They were smallish with pretty orange and black legs and blue eyes. They were so charismatic and I liked to photograph them. One them had a strange shell and we named him Wonky.
Sadly, the little hermit crabs grew up. Wonky grew tired of moving about in his strange shell, so he moved into a HUGE shell that had anthelia growing on it and proceeded to drag is all over my tank, seeding the whole thing full of anthelia. In that shell he grew larger and larger until he moved into an even huger shell. I noticed that one of the other ones has moved into the shell that formerly had anthelia on it.
Now, every morning when I wake up I am greeted by the nightly destruction of my halloween hermits. Last night he managed to move a lobo that's about six inches long. Wonky has also taken to killing my snails for NO REASON except to dine on them. (And it's not like I don't feed my tank.)
The moral of this story? Buy dwarf hermits. Sigh. Next time he trundles out, it's to the sump with him!
Vent over.
