Hey,
I'm planning on building myself a fixture. For the past 2 months I've been trying to figure out what lighting I wanted and have gone thru all of them. I was set on MH's, I was going with either 150W DE or 175W SE. But my tank is open top and the only way to get good coverage is to raise the end of the fixture at least 6" from the top of the tank walls. The problem is that my desk is right next to the tank and once I raise the lighting I know the light will shine right in my face. So I thought about getting a solaris but its pretty expensive and I'd rather wait a little while. So back to T5's, if I go this route I want a lot of them, like 9 or 10 over the tank. I also want to incorporate a black acrylic curtain around the fixture. So I got two questions.
Is there a recommended hi-temp paint to put on wood that will be holding the lights? What would you use for MH's?
Any suggestions on how to light an open top tank?
Thanks.
