You really need to do some reading if you have no idea why T5 bulbs are used.
Idk if any amount of reading would really give you this answer. Its one of several WELL proven lighting technologies for reef tanks. After that it pretty much just becomes personal preference.

A small amount of reading would bring you to the conclusion that it is a well proven method. Hence why I suggested further reading.
When I posted this it wasnt as much thought put into it as the fact the LED is available for cheap. And for a fish only system there's not a lot of reasons NOT to use these. "reading" as you suggest only makes me ask questions like:
Since a T5 is smaller and you can fit more over a tank why not make T4, T3, T2's

Just a note but they do actually make a t4,t3 and t2 bulb. They are the same diameter as a T5 though and just available in different wattage than T5.
