Hood Making question

Hey guys,
I decided to make a hood for my tank, do i need special wood of anysort? If so what is it? This is going to have a MH lighting in the hood. Anything else special that i need?

regular wood is fine, just make sure its well vented

I like the finish of birch and it's also nice and light.
