how can i help this guy

I recently rescued this from a buddy tank which wasnt looking to good. Can you guys tell me what it is and how can i help him. The branch is turning white at the root and the i noticed that the branch tends to break very easy, i think its dieing, what can i do to help him?? any help is appreciated It has been in my tank for 2 weeks

waht lighting did he have how long did you aclimate the coral and also what lighting do you have introduce it slowly to your system with starting off not so direct light and then moveing up and up week after week. also check your cal and alk and mag and see if they are in the right parameters.

i acclimated him like i would to any other of my corll all my parameters are always on check and he was under 75 watts and when i first got him i had it on the sandbed and now he is on the top under 150watts but he i do see improvements on the coral but i just want to make sure i am doing the right thing. I also wanted to know what kind of coral is it?

from the pic, looks like a digi, but I may be wrong, maybe a closer shot may help...if the white hasn't increase leave it where it is and not stress it by moving it around.

If the white is not moving up then as the knugenx suggested, leave it alone. If the white is spreading I would frag off an unaffected piece rather than take the chance of losing the whole thing. As for your parameters, what are they and what is your setup. As some of the more experienced reefers have told me, SPS like lots of light(once acclimated) and lots of flow. eg I have 3000 gph of flow in a 75 gallon tank. Better pic will help some on this site identify the piece you have.
