How do you know if your skimmer is working?

OR if your bioload is low, and it can't skim anything...

I have a tang and a clown on a 58 display + 20 sump = 78 total volume.

My euroreef rs 135 was skimming @ first, but now it has stopped. Notice the bubbles are extra big, and there's matter accumulating, but just can't make it up the cup because the bubbles are not small enough. My nitrates have been going up, so that's why I think it's not because there's nothing to skim.

I think there's too much turbulence..

good question, i just put an asmg4xx skimmer on my 180g and it seems like it is not pulling anything out. i have some light green water in the cup but not
that dark green smelly gook that i have gotten before in the past. also i am not sure how high the water level should be in the skimmer tower. should the water level be all the way up to the foot of the neck so that you can see some bubbles just at the collection cup level. my nitrate level is decreasing but that could be because i have been keeping up with my husbandry on my tank since i got my ro/di unit and installed a refugium about 6 weeks ago.

have any other water params changed? I think things like changes in salinity will effect skimmer functionality?
perhaps it just needs some fine tuning? have you fiddled with everything fiddle-able? im not familiar with this skimmer but it looks like it wants to work but can't make it all the way =)
