How does health insurance work

Just a thought to consider. The reason they could work witht you on the price is because someone else is paying more to make up the difference. As far as the costs, well there is alot that goes into the cost of medical care:
Overhead - rent, electric, gas, telephone, internet, office supplies
Salaries - doctors, nurses, nursing assistant, billing specialist, accounting, social worker, janitor, receptionist, secretary, etc.
Medical equipment and disposable supplies
Insurance

All that has to be paid somehow and only then can someone make a profit to show for all the hard work.

so yes they work with you but its being abused by the welfare system , they pay hospitals big money for the same operation ! seems crazy cause it comes out of the taxpayers pocket to pay for the welfare system . i do not believe that this is right ,if they will cut costs for me why not for the government ?simply put its a scam in my eyes ! thats all i got to say about that.

If you think thats bad you should see the other big government programs with actual money to spend. My friend works as a tech supplier, and one of the biggest customers is the Department of Defense. Typically customers haggle to get better pricing, the DoD just asks for equipment without so much as asking for the price. They just tack on their big profit numbers to their bill all the time, and the DoD AP department just pays it off no questions asked.

Ok Health insurance works like this.

They take money out of my paycheck every 2 weeks to pay for my coverage. I get sick and go to the DR or an emergency room or a specialist and I pay a co-pay fee. Then I get medical attention and feel better. My insurance companies pay the agreed upon fees for the services rendered and either I have to pay more out of pocket or they just settle for what the company pays them.


Other people who don't have insurance do the same thing except with the paycheck deductions and the co-pays and they get the same service without being obligated to pay a cent.

I like to think of it as the insurance companies pay wholesale prices and people pay retail prices.

And we wonder why hospitals are being closed :scratchch

Don't feel bad for the insurance companies. As a collective, our union pays BCBS $23-$26 million annually and BCBS usually only pays out $14-16 million in services. So they are making at least $10 million minus whatever their operating cost are.

Of course they are making money. They are a business after all, not a charity. I dont have a problem with that. I have a problem when they wont play by the rules and screw people over which happens too often.

same with auto insurance when you get used recycled and after market parts put on your new car :irked:, if they dont turn a profit they no longer are a business
