How much percent water change after tank cycling?

Hey Everyone,

Just curious after your tank cycles how much of a water change do members here do? Talking about the first water change if not mistaken I was told about 90% should be done. Does that still hold true, was back a few years?

I would think 90% is a lot, and it could shock the bacteria system and cause a mini spike/cycle. I would think the % of the water change will have to do with how high your Nitrates are, as the water change is what you'll use to bring them down.

As long as nitrites and ammonia are at 0 you could do a normal water change which would be around 10%
