After seeing some thread's like Preston's, I have an urge to start a new tank. Alas, I don't have the room ;) But it got me thinking .... what stage of a tank's history gets you most excited?

That is a tough question. I set up my first tank about 10 years ago and moved quickly to get water in it. I have had many tanks since then, but they were always upgrades from an existing tank so I always had to take one tank down and quickly get the other tank set up and running again. I have had to tear down a tank, move it 200 miles and set it up again. A couple of years ago I moved from Kansas City, to Orlando Florida. The aquarium stuff was the last thing put on the moving truck and three days later it was the first stuff off. We set up the aquarium before we put our bed together. The next time I set up a tank I hope to be able to take my time to make sure all of the plumbing and equipment are set up just the way I want it before a single drop of water is added. I would love to have the luxury of looking at an empty aquarium knowing that I was not under any time limit to get it set up the way I want it. My tanks have always been successful, but I almost always find one or two things that I would have done differently if I had the time. I love it when a tank matures and things really start to look good, but having the time to get everything right the first time means I won't have to worry about making major changes in the future.

Once you have it all put together and start adding water is the beginning of most of the excitement, I feel. Once you start adding livestock things get really awesome! :D But then you kind of get used to the system, even though it's still great. But I generally start missing the feeling of putting a system together.

How about looking at other peoples tanks and reminiscing about when you used to keep corals and being content not to go through the troubles that accompany it ever again.

The months after setting up. Seeing stuff come out of the rock, adding new stock, seeing it grow for the first time in your tank. That sort of thing.

I think putting it together is the most fun for me. I like tinkering and stuff. I guess I'll see after this tank has been set up for a while. My longest running tank so far is 3 years.

I'm in the design phase of deciding what equipment will best suit my frag/grow out tank. I am having alot of fun researching and cant wait to spend the money. I Like to tinker as well and since I truely cant do any more plumbing on the 120 that will also be a fun phase. I would have to say the first two on the list do it for me.

The design phase is fun for me, but this time is forecast to last around 4 years, which reduces the fun somewhat. :(

after all the tragedies, outbreaks. When the tank finally comes into its own and starts helping you with maintenance. you just gotta say wow.

The most exciting for me was when I plugged two Iwaki 100's in when I first set up my 300. I was sure that the drains would't drain fast enough and a flood would ensue. If course, they did drain, but I still nearly crapped my pants when I plugged the second one in.

I actually enjoy the maturing process more that the build or the stocking.
