Just a suggestion...pull it away from the Ricordia. It won't fully expand if it's touching a stinging coral like that. It looks like the mantle is actually retracted behind the shell right there.
yah I agree with Matt, get away from those ricordias.. besides I would think the light intensity would either favor either then clam or the rics but not both at one particular location.
I am a little scared to put on the floor. I have about 4.5 watts per gallon and I dont want to see it wither away. Unless someone with experience thinks it will make it.
Because of the different types of lighting, the 'watts per gallon' method isn't used as much anymore. For example, you'd get more intense lighting out of 175 watts of MH as opposed to 192 watts of PC.
Personally, I've kept derasa and hippopus clams in my sump with just some actinic lighting, and they did fine.
I think it'll be fine, but if you decide to keep it up on the rockscape, be sure it's placed securely where you don't end up having to reposition it from time to time.
Often times, clam losses can be attributed to improper placement.
Gator, small ones tend to grow pretty quickly. If I had to give a rough estimate, I'd say they can add an inch (or more) a year. I know that doesn't sound all that fast, but relative to most other clams, T.deresa is a quick grower.
