But a glass bowl with steep sides with a piece shrimp in it. Place the bowl next to a rock so the crab can get in. He won't be able to get out because he can't climb up the steep sides.

That was my first plan of attack. Going to give that a shot tonight.

I also considered putting a net in thte corrner with some bait in it. That would require me checking on things and scooping it out when it was in the net.

this, or, you can build a fish trap out of a 2 liter bottle, and some fishing line...I built one out of some plastic vodka bottles, and it has a trap door you pull closed with the fishing line(also pulls entire trap up to a reachable level in the tank)

Do you have a pic of this device?

not at the moment(I do still have it though) - its easy to make though- take 2 liter bottle, cut top of bottle off about 2.5-3 inches below the neck, and cut the narrow part of the neck off(just wide enough for the crab to pass through, and invert top into the body of the bottle, punch a couple of holes in the bottom of the bottle to eliminate air pockets, place bait inside, submerge bottle in the tank and wait.
The crab will go inside, and wont be able to quickly exit because it cant see the opening above it(bottle sitting on its side).

for fish, you simply build a trap door with extra plastic(two 2 liter bottles) and some fishing line to block their exit.

I got a nice pickle jar I am going to try. I need some bait. Considering where I live you would think I could just pick some up, but buying 1 shrimp is kind of silly. I am sure we will cook some this week at some point in time and I will just snag one then.
