the size or the tank, stocking levels, feeding routine and filtration play a large part in proper maintenance. Just because the LFS guy never does waterchanges on his tank doesnt mean that will work for you. also, remember there is a small conflict of intrest when discussing maintenance with the guy who sells you your livestock. ;) grab some test kits so you can see whats going on with your water chemistry and go from there. start with nitrate, phosphate and alkalinity.

The post was really to see who'd freak out on me. but i guess some of yous also have success with a few water changes.

lol. Im pretty sure people that can give you helpful advice will remember that next time you ask for help.

Its a fact that water changes do give positive reactions in coral from the fresh water added weekly. Its also a fact that you can run a tank for a long time and do water changes yearly while beeing overstocked and overfed with minimal/no side effects. Beneficial advice given is a median of the two through trial and error for as long as reefkeeping was around. As with everything in this hobby. And the advice changes yearly.

Anything said has two sides of truth. But the majority of peoples tanks fall under the median advice and thats whats given when people try to see how many people freak out from a quick comment.
