I may have over amphipoded my tank. I collected these in a few minutes in a tide pool that I got to in my boat. I have always done this but it just seems like a lot of amphipods at once. The fish think they died and went to fish heaven. :bablefish
Here is a short amphipod video as they look just after collection :lol2:

I'm asking because I recently placed an order online and I'm expecting 2000+.
You probably ordered copepods which are a lot smaller. I don't think they sell amphipods but I could be wrong. They are simple to collect.

I collect them in Port Washington in a tide pool here behind my boat. . I go out there whenever the tide is right and that is also the place I hang out every weekend.
The next time low tide falls on a decent hour in the morning when it is not raining, I will go back. Nothing happens with too many amphipods, they just get stuck in my skimmer venture, but they re produce all year as I have a bunch from last year. The fish love them.

Nice boat! And awesome catch.

I belive the order description said amphipods & copepods included. I don't really know the difference other than what I read in articles online. This is my fist order. So I'm looking forward to see how my fishes will take to them.

So do you put these in a fuge or dump them directly into tank? I suppose you would rinse them out first?

they sell amphipods online.

If you're getting them from who i think you're getting them from, then you will definitely see the amphipods, you'd have to look much closer (maybe even a magnifying lens/microscope)) to see the copepods.

I remember the going out to catch ghost shrimp and stuff many many years ago with you Paul. It was a fun and challenging day (I couldn't swim...).

:) Always glad to see you're still getting tank supplies from the source.

oh207, no rinsing, they go right in to the tank, mud and all.
I didn't know they sell amphipods online. I never bought anything alive online.
If I needed a business I could collect these by the millions. But I don't need a business and the shipping is the hard part. I used to have an urchin business and I collected and shipped urchins all over the country. Overnight shipping costs way more then the urchins were worth.
My tank is still dark and I looked in there with my new critter light and there are amphipods on everything. All over the gravel, they are having a ball and really seem to love their new home. I add them whenever I go to that place and remember to bring a bucket. :D

No problem Doug, I dumped those 5 or 600 amphipods in my tank when I got home. There was so many around my copperband he didn't eat any. I think he was dumfounded, he just kept saying no, what was that, OMG, look at that and he didn't know what to eat first, so he missed all of them. But they are all over the tank so the fish can't miss. I will most likely get a cycle of something fromall the seaweed I threw in there with them but I couldn't separate the tiny pods from the weeds.
I always did that and it never hurt anything.

Can you hook me up too .. Please lol

I can only go on weekdays and to collect in tide pools it has to be low tide but I can collect around my boat anytime. But you can collect these in the Bronx also. Orchard beach should have rocky places where you can collect pods under rocks.

4 or 5 times over the last few years I posted on here if anyone wanted to co collecting. The last two times a few people wanted to go but all cancelled on the collection day so I don't ask any more.
