ID please - is this a plate? Or maybe a chalice?

A friend gave me this, he got it in rough shape and said the person said it was a chalice.. I'm up in the air what it is, has a lot of chalice qualities but that center mouth made me double guess myself because I associated that with a plate...

It has colored up a little since I got it, I'm not a chalice or plate guy.

The mouth in the middle would also make me lean more toward it being a plate than a chalice as chalices have 'eyes' and not a mouth structure as yours looks to have.
Have you seen any feeding tentacles coming out of it?

looks like an unhappy plate to me, hard to tell though. from what I read about plates, they can come back from being in shabby shape for weeks appearing dead
