Hello,

Can you guys please help me identify all the corals in the video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMF7nKc10qc

I've come across these corals rather unexpectedly and am not versed in corals very well. I would appreciate any advice on my set up and the corals, as I plan on doing research on the corals once I know exactly what they are.

Current set up:
29 Gallon
Tons of established live rock (3 months of cycling with fish)

Filter:
Only have the corale powerhead for water movement
9W UV Coralife Turbotwist as the yellow tangs have gotten ick. (the corals initially moved into my tank because my friends tank had ick, now my tangs have it..)

Animals:

3 Yellow Tangs
1 Maroon Clown?
1 Pink Tip Anenome
Ass. Mushrooms, hairy etc.
Clam (don't know exactly what kind but seem to be a regular purple clams)

Feeding:
DT Phytoplankton once a day
Reef Solution once a day
Calcium and Alkility part 1 and 2 daily (my calcium hovers around 420 so I add maybe five times a week)

I plan on building a refugium. nitrates go up pretty quickly so i do 20% water change weekly.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

TOMTOOTHDOC,

Thanks for your reply. I have a close up of the clam at the end as well as a full tank shot, IF you wanna give it a look. I'm afraid I've already been flamed by the tang police and have assured them that they are leaving the aquarium soon.

Now, ONTO RESEARCH.

Thanks again.

you're welcome.

them tang police are quick aren't they.....lol.

i did watch it all the way through but difficult to tell because of the expanded mantle hiding the edge of the shell. maxima tends to have more scalloping edges and along most of the shells, crocea tends to have smoother shells. i would bet on a crocea.

if you do 20% water change weekly, i don't think you would have to add alk and cal as much. also easy on the phyto. too much fouls the water quality....any type of feeding, will increase the nitrates and phos. so moderation is key.

what's moderation? when feeding fish with flakes dunk them so they sink and watch if any hits the floor without getting eaten then that's enough. same with the pellets. also once a day is plenty. it's better to under feed a little bit than overfeeding.
if you feed frozen, rinse them in a fine net and add tank water and mix in a cup if you want to add selcon or any vitamin you can mix that in and let sit for 5-10 min. half a cube in the morning(put the left over in the fridge) and half a cube at night is better than the whole cube at once.
with phyto, you want very little, mix it with tank water in a cup and spot feed with a turkey baster. broadcast feeding doesn't get to the intended coral much. i see only one clam so once to twice a week is fine.
