In Case of Emergency - UPS Advice

Does anyone have experience or preference when it comes to buying a UPS in case of power loss? From what I've read, they seem like the best option to keep some power besides buying a crazy generator. I'd rather keep gasoline out of the equation.

The best thing to buy in a Deep cycle marine battery and inverter, if you can't get or keep a generator. Also it's best to get 2 golf cart batteries instead of a marine battery, as this will give you the power to crank bigger pumps, which require extra amp to start. You can then run your large aquarium pumps for 24 hours without any problem, then when the battery run low you can give it a boast from your car.

I posted this on another thread, figured I'd add it here.

Just an FYI - I have an APC model BX1500LCD. At full charge with my MAG5 return pump, one korilia nano for extra circulation, and the small pump that supplies my Aquafuge2 HOB fuge, I have 85 min of backup time. Unplugging the korilia had no effect, unplugging the fuge pump gave me 4 extra minutes.

With just the nano korilia and the fuge pump plugged in and unplugging the MAG5... I got 817 minutes!!! LMAO!! I wonder how my 36bow would do running only on a aquafuge 2 small HOB and a korilia nano??

If you just keep a small powerhead to circulate the water, any UPS can do. However, if you have a big pump to run, I would suggest

APC SUA750XL or SUA1000XL with external battery SUA24XLBP

I am using Reeflo Hammerhead pump to circulate my 750G reef tanks system in my office at Commack. The pump draws 300W of power. 2 days after I connected the above UPS, the entire office was out of electricity from 3:30pm, and the pump kept working until 7pm, and the power did not come back by 7:30pm. I was in a panic during the lapse of the above half hour. By 11pm, I bought couple more backup batteries from Ebay.
