It should be fine, just keep any that require strong light higher up and not to far off to the sides. Clams might be a problem because of the depth but thats it

Dual 150s will give a large spread, but less penetration.

I recommend looking at Sanjay's site and making your own decision. Depending on which bulbs you use, you can actually get the same PAR as slightly lower wattage bulbs depending on the bulb and whether its 10K, 14K, 20K etc.

the 175w iwasaki 15k bulbs burns as bright as many 250w bulbs. The Iwasaki SE 175w 15k paired w/ a good ballast + good reflector is probably plenty for your 54g corner tank.

For example the 175w Iwasaki 15k on an Icecap ballast put out a 86 PPFD and only uses 165 watts.

Pretty impressive considering my 250w Reeflux 10k on an Icecap Ballast put out 86 PPFD and uses 253 watts.

I second a good reflector and you could get away with the one 175 or 250 bulb, but if you can get a good deal on 400 and the electricty is not an issue, get it now so your not limited at all in your coral selections and depth of where you can put corals. Usually fixtures are made 1 bulb per 2 feet for metal halide So i would still look into maybe a good reflector like lumenarc3 to spread the one light over the 30+ inches. I have a 36 corner and 1 250 is perfect. I know they sell 30" long fixtures with one 250 plus t5's or PC actinics
