is this alright?!?! (overflow issue)

i asked this question in another post, but i don't know that anyone saw it. i am hoping to begin filling my new tank today. i am really torn as to whether or not i am cool with the fact that the overflow cover doesn't fit......

i tried to fill the gap with epoxy but it won't fill the gap.

you can see the gap that runs around the front of the cover. the gap tapers off to nothing where the back corners meet the tank perfectly and holds it securely in place.

i would just go with nothing, but the stand is so tall that when you sit on the couch the water level will be to low without it and the lights above would be directly in your eyes.

if i shouldn't let this happen, i don't need to fill the tank today. i just really really really really really really really really really really really want to.....

You should be fine. If you are concerned fill the anular space with water first, then the tank. That way if their is an issure it will not colaps. After the tank is full the pressure on either side will be equal and a non isses. Do not completely fill the overflow prior to filling the tank. I had one pop on me, probably not an issue just a caution.

the problem is that water will flow down between the black cover, and the glass box that is attached to the tank.... the black cover literally just slides over the glass box. i can foresee water flowing in between and creating a great place for algae to grow.

sorry, i meant silicone. (i actually thought they were one in the same) the gap in front is to big to do this. the sides, no problem. but the distance between the glass and front of the black is about 1/4" or so....

glass cages says its no problem. and if i am concerned about algae growning, i should leave enough space to take it out and clean it....

If you are concerned and it has not been fully secured take it off and silicone the snot out of it and hit all the seams after it is back in place. If it is in place you can run a nice bead on all the seams and over the gap. It will not bond to the acrylic, but will make a seal. You will need to let it cure 24 hours before you fill.
