This is an attack on the hobby itself, the whole idea of keeping little fishies as pets.....Taking them away from their safe little reefs. Nothing is further from the truth, virtually ALL little baby fish are killed and eaten on the reef during their first year. maybe Disney will have a correct ending to its new film by having its lead character, at the end of the story , finally finding his way back to his home the reef,.........abruptly being eaten by an adult trigger fish , intestines first, while he is still alive! had the author of the LA times piece also followed nine un collected baby fish on the reef ,like he followed the puffer ...over the weeks he would have witnessed all nine being eaten and dying horrible "natural" deaths. This LA Times story IS a fair "reality" of the hobby. Stop trying to show that it is not....... We use animals to amuse our selves ........The only way to excuse this hobby is to show the benifits the public contact with sea life has on awareness of the true threats to the reefs and the reality that this hobby even after twenty years of collection has no effects on the fish population in the wild. { the yellow tang quote in the piece is bull , In The few areas that Yellow tangs are collected the numbers have been steady for years , and 95% of the reefs in Hawaii there is NO collection] Promising to "Behave"and act better in the future will NOT get this hobby past the idea that the hobby of keeping pet fish is in poor taste and un necessary........?
