Not sure if this was the right forum to post this question:

I have a slow drip, again, out of the power cord hole.

Manual says it would be too much tension on the quick disconnect.

Last time it happened I readjusted the lines to try and relieve some strain.

Now it's doing it again!

I'll try redoing the lines completely and ensure there is ample slack. If it happens then, it's either deal with it or buy another...?....

Kasey, the O-ring may need replacing. This seems to be a common problem (design flaw) of an otherwise good canister filter.

Yeah, I'm looking on ebay now and will search for the part on the net.

Like I said, it's a used unit, so salt/time prolly wore away at the rubber....

Leak is slow enough that I can let it run at least.

I just ordered a new one and some new tubing - $24, free shipping.

I'll inspect the existing one, but it probably is the culprit.

Kasey, you might end up getting rid of that rena filter in the near future, or atleast using it to run carbon or phosban instead of utilizing it as a form of filtration, since you are implementing live rock as a place to hold your beneficial bacteria. i had a rena xp3 and i noticed that it would rather quickly start producing nitrates, instead of helping my water. i use a protein skimmer, live rock, and a refugium with macroalgae on my tank and have had great luck with it so far.

Thanks for the info. I enjoyed reading your tank progression posts and admire what you've created.

Did you ever use the xp3 to completion (let the levels fall down) or switch beforehand. You saw from my other post that my levels are now going up in my cycle.

i don't quite remember how it went at this point. i believe i cured the rock in the display, and ran the filter the whole time, washing it out completely weekly. i took any ceramic rings/bacteria holding media out.

Just an update:

Last time I did a water change I replaced the main o-ring and ran new tubing that had plenty of length.

Rena works great now, with NO leaks.
