looking to go with led lights. are they all the same and what is optics

Mike...they are not all the same and the optics are the lens on them ...there a few different ones as well providing different light patterns.....you can do a search for info or you can give Wingo or James a PM....they both are LED vendors

They are not all the same. There are tons of differences and you def wanna do your research before buying. There isnt alot of long term info on them as far as growth and PAR readings but people have been reporting some success with them. The optics decide the "spread" of the light. There are a bunch of threads on here if you do a search.

if you need more in depth help you can pm me ill be happy to explain everything. and an answer to you question optics are like lenses so the light is focused downwards instead of the sides of the leds which is just wasting light energy. the best optics are usually 65-80 degrees but it all depends on how far apart you are spreading them and how deep the tank is.
