I am going to purchase new lightingf for my new setup I am planning and wanted some advice on a thought I am having.

Since there is no center brace I am wondering if I should go with 2-250s or one 400w with a large reflector, tell me what you think? The tank will be mixed but sps dominant.

Just my 2 cents- 2 - 250's would give better light dispersal & the 250's are sufficient enough for a 24" deep tank. A 48" run is a lot of area for 1 light to cover. Are you building from scratch or buying a prefab light fixture?

I have one se fixture and one hqi fixture. I am looking either for 1 se fixture or 2 hqi fixtures. the hqi I have now is a hamilton and I do not like it. I want to run them on icecap ballasts also. I am going to go with the 2 250s makes more sense in the long run. Thanks for the responses.

I have a 6 foot tank and one 400 in the middle will not sufficiently light the sides. With a 24" deep tank, you might be able to do it with one 400. If I had a choice, I would go with 2 250's. If you want to save 100 watts though, one 400 with a big reflector will give you plenty of light - just not as much as the 500 watts.
