Thanks, but I am looking for sand from a tank. Once you get live rock any sand will turn live. But sand from a tank besides being live also has all kinds of worms and critters which adds to the diversity of things.

the sand in the bags do come live with bacteria. From what I know the bags even have an expiration date on them. That live sand in bags isn't dry.. it comes with water in it..

Also be careful from sand from others tanks.. ya it might have good stuff but it might have bad stuff.. the bagged live sand won't have any bad stuff in it.

good luck

Even livestocks can bring in unwanted pathogens into tank. Mo matter how clean or well sterilized the tank may be, once any fish/LR/Inverts are introduced, tank becomes bioactive. If too clean, can not support life forms. I believe it is matter of controlling thru routine maintenace and observations.

Livestock is the most likely problem of bringing bad stuff. But yes, anything with water on it has the potential of bringing the bad. But that is a chance you need to take if you want bio deversity.
