So lets say I have a 400 watt MH bulb about 8" away from a sheet of 3/8" cast cell acrylic in a fixture with a glass shield, and keep it at a reasonable temperature. What will be the fate of the acrylic over time?

Possibly some warping over a shorter term. Although this tends to happen regardless of lights or heat when you have humidity one one side of an acrylic panel that isn't cemented to the sides of a box/tank.

I have seen on a large 2000 gallon store display MH crack 1.25" acrylic though.

I have some that bubbled due to heat from PC lamp. MH makes some of the panes yellows and crazed.

Just make sure youve got plenty of air movement between the lighting and the tank.

Depends on the MH's UV output. +20KK bulbs from what I hear are harder on acrylic then a 5600K bulb.
