lugol´s substitutes?

Hi. I have been looking for lugol´s sulution here in mexico without success, I have found two substitutes.

One is:

1 gram iodine
2.5 grams potasium iodide
100 ml of vehicle (it doesn´t says what it is maybe alcohol or water I think)
This one is decolorized

The other formula is:

2 g Iodine
2.5 g potasium iodide
100 ml Vehicle (same story... it does not says what exactly it is)


I wanna stop using tincture because it has only iodine disolved in alcohol, I know the choices above could be better.

Could you help me to know what the vehicle (solvent) could be in the formulas and what do you think if I use one of them. The firts formula is almost lugol's but I'm not sure. Any advise?

additional note : I smelt both the clear one smell like amonia! 8O and the second smell like iodine tincture.

the ingredients listed are: Purified water, Potassium Iodide, and Iodine.

both the ratios you posted are listed for Lugol's(which is actually correct is beyond me- I found 5 different ratios).
