Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade - Community Development Officer (CDO)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade - CDO will be responsible for overseeing that all Sustainable Management of the Aquarium Reef Trade community training events, information materials and participatory processes are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
* Ensure that methods for developing and enforcing Collection Area Management Plans follow appropriate participatory and stakeholder involvement processes for each of the target locations.
* Advise on the development of appropriate training, awareness and other materials for regional, national and community stakeholders ensuring appropriate media, language and content for the socio cultural situations.
* Contribute to the design of all events, workshops etc. ensuring appropriate participatory processes are implemented, including training of reef and other survey methods, training of collectors and so on.
* Responsible for monitoring and evaluating in-country collection area manager capacity building activities and assessing thereafter the ability and potential of collection sites to meet Marine Aquarium Council (MAC) Ecosystem and Fisheries Management (EFM) standards.
* Responsible for implementing capacity building activities in the identified collection areas with the selected collection area managers where appropriate, to enable them to become MAC Certified according to MAC EFM standards in preparation for the actual certification.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
* BS/BA degree in Marine Biology, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology or relevant field.
* Proven track record in community participation in marine resource management and participatory methodologies, e.g. PLA/PRA.
* Experience relating to governance and marine resource tenure in Pacific Island settings.
* Experience in training and capacity building at the community and institutional levels.
* Proven track record in communications and preparation of written materials…
* Have at least five years relevant experience in Pacific SIDS
* Fluency in a Pacific language is an advantage
* Ability to travel extensively
