Happy to see that MAC is re-tooling their net training program after the departure of some of their field staff.

It is also good that to see that MAC has not abandoned the Philippines as has been often speculated.

People,
There was already a "training of trainers" by MAC before. This was also ballyhooed in the press.

What happened to that one that required another?

After all the 'on-line' training of MAC these past two years...may we assume that this time there will be people who actually know how to train cyanide fisherman?
May we also assume that the real netting will be available and in fact were already available to train trainers in the first place?
Its not what you say but what you do...so these are glaring questions to be asked before any dancing of jigs.

It seems like a good positive step MAC has taken. Let's all hope the training was good, the trainers are dedicated, and that less destructive fishing will be used as a result. It is also nice of Jaime to supply the MAC with netting.

John,

Can you provide any more info on the training(s)?
What sort of things did the trainings cover?
Are these trainers for fish collectors, showing them new techniques and better holding and shipping procedures?
Or is this training for trainers covering something else?

Regards.

Ms. Ruth Gerochi is trained as a specialty psychologist and is quite experienced in facilitating seminars and workshops --particularly those geared towards retraining for organizational/ methodological overhaul.

She's also known for past and present involvement (leadership positions even) in a number of cause-oriented NGO's.

Her involvement is not a bad thing at all.
Of course, a lot more determines the worthiness of a program, and training the trainers is still a few steps shy of where the sodyum meets the sea... so I have to echo mike's request for futher info.

How about it, John?
