Mag Drive 12 Return pump question

I plan on using a Mag 12 (1200 gph) as a return pump to my 180 gallon and to feed two reactors (carbon/gfo). The pump will be under the stand so only a few feet of head to the tank.

Do you think the Mag 12 will provide sufficient flow for the tank and reactors?

That's a weak pump for that application. The two reactor split adds a large drop of efficiency.

That is what I was worried about. Thanks Russ. Do you know of a good submersible pump that will work well for that application?

I don't think the Mag 12 is a horrible choice (if you already have it). Just use a separate pump for the reactors. There are certainly better submersibles for your system than the Mag Drives, but like I said, if you already own it, use it.

I like the Marineland Euro Utility Pump 5500 as a submersible pump as opposed to the Mag Drive. The Mags are dependable pumps, but they are energy hogs and put out a lot heat. The Marineland Euro Utility Pumps are also dependable and definitely more energy efficient (less heat).
