Magnets in the water

One of my Seio's fell for the 10th time yesterday. The suction cups are basically useless.

I'm thinking of going with magnets, but I'm not sure that they're safe for the saltwater.

Anyone here have experience with them?

why would they be bad? you know the powerheads have magnets in them.

Magnets are made from ferrous metal so they will rust in a saltwater tank without proper protection.

Russ(masterswimmer) had bought some and he glued on with silicon, check with him on his results.

whatever u do, don't buy this one:

I glued a Seio mount to it and after about 4 months, it began to rust.

As Cali said, the ones Swimmer got are awesome - thet are the rare Earth magnets,

I got the ones that ar basically about the size of a penny round and about 10 pennies high. I piked up lucite boxes at The Container Store, sunk them magnets in and siliconed them in. I then glued the top on with IC-Gel and left a pocket of air in there so they can float if they detach for some reason.

Thanks for the info. Just to be sure. Your magnets are sealed into the containers so they don't actually contact the salt water, right?

I modded my Seio mounts as per this post. It's not as flexible as a magnetic mount, but it's cheaper.

Cali and house are right. I've used the rare earth magnets with numerous coats of silicone. I have one SEIO 1500 mounted this way for just over 1 year. No signs of rust anywhere.
I have another SEIO 820 mounted this way too. This pic is the 820. BTW, I have them mounted where you don't see the magnets at all.

The magnets I use cost me $14 (for 5, you'll only need 4) and will hold any powerhead. The one you listed costs $35. If you use it on two or three powerheads it will quickly become very expensive.
