Hello Guy's and Gal's
I just purchased Marine snow. It's by a company called Two little fishies. It contains planktonic food for Corals. My question is does anyone like this product and most of all How often do I add this to my tank. The bottle say's to feed them 20 Gal per capful but not how often. Do I do this once a day, every other, 3 times aweek??? I would appreciate any answers. I checked there website and it's in Japanese. Let's say my Japenese is a little rusty. LOL

How often does one add these supplements to your tank to feed Corals. I understand you need to turn off the protein skimmer for an hour or so as well..... So when you turn it back on, does this skim all the Planktonic material right out?? Would it make sense to add a capful or two without the skimmer running, assuming the corals eat for an hour or two then put the skimmer back on?? " a cap full is for 20 Gal "I would think dosing the whole tank... example 95 gal for me..... just to turn the skimmer on 2 hours later two clean it all out?? Then I would waste alot of this food and money. Can someone shed some light on this for me??

Hi. Not many serious hobbyist use this product as past tests on it revealed it doesn't contain much nutrition. TLF is a very good company with many fine products, but IMHO Marine Snow is not one of them. You can feed it pretty often (daily even) as it's mostly water.

The reason to turn your skimmer back on not too long after dosing is to resume removing nutrients as soon as possible. Adding foods such as these small particulates will eventually cause the tank water to foul. I would be more worried about deteriorating water conditions.

What I recommend to sustain your corals is a two part additive like TLF's C-balance. This will provide the elements your corals are accustomed to in natural seawater. If you're looking for small particulates to feed your tank's filter feeders, consider Reef Nutrition's Rotifeast (www.reefnutrition.com). DT's phytoplankton is a great live culture too.
