Maroon Clown

Has anybody have any experience with keeping two Maroon Clowns? If I add a second one, should it be bigger or smaller?

I'm not possitive but I think that when having two clowns you should add them at the same time. if you have one in the tank already and then add a second they might fight.

I purchased mine as a pair. I was advised that they can be somewhat picky in choosing a mate, but that could have just been a sales gimmick.

IMO, I would go with a much smaller one. Thay way you are sure that it is male.

How old is your tank? When was the first maroon added? If you added 1 maroon a few days ago and add a second now just re scape some of the rocks and they should be fine. Anything more than a week, I think the new maroon is gonna be pretty beat up and dead soon after you add him. Oh and if you do add, smaller is the way to go.

My Tank is about 6 months old. I've had the maroon for about 2 months now. What if I remove him and put him back in the tank the same time as a smaller one.

Don't think that will do anything except stress him out. I would say it is a bad idea to add another maroon unless you add 2 and hope that one makes it if the other dies.

just add a much much smaller one and hope for the best. you could also put the new one in a clear container in the tank and see how the older one acts towards it's presence.

I think this idea is your best chance.


Removing the other Maroon and putting them both into the tank at the same time will not do anything unless you do a major rearrangement of the aquascape

Maroon clowns are one of the hardest clowns to pair up. I think the success rate is less than 50% when trying to pair up maroons separately.

I got my 2nd maroon recently. When I first threw the little guy in the big momma beat the living hell out of him. She tore his rear and top fin. She grabbed him by the back and tore him around and now they live in the same anenome and hes healed nicely. Its really hard to watch but I guess it depends on how tough he is.

I have a container Tanks Ronen. Well maybe you guys can rate how aggressive my Clown is, he tries to bite me everytime I put my hand next to its anemone and any coral that's close to it he nips at it. He almost beat up my cleaner shrimp. I put a rock next to the anemone and he started to nip and beat it with its tail. So let me know if it's aggressive or not.

I say get rid of the Maroon and get something else that is less aggressive. They are known to bite the hand that feeds them.

I have to say that my female maroon was extremely agressive and very prone to fanning up sand with her tail. That being said, I think all clowns are agressive to a degree, my female perc bites me everytime I put my hand in the tank. It helps me keep my hands out of the tank.
