Trade for other fish that do not require a sand bed, corals or $50. Has been with me over a year, no new fish added since his addition. About 4” and fairly young. Purchased as a juvenile

How’s he been doing in bare bottom tank?
My current tank has a sand bed you can kinda see in the 1st picture. I just ordered a new tank and am going bare bottom. Tank not coming for 2 months just planning ahead. I don't want to have to put a Tupperware full of sand in the new tank. Done that in the past, they can be messy fish lol. I was under the impression they really needed sand. Don't want him to be miserable. If that were not the case I'd keep him. Beautiful fish and fun to watch

All good! I had a melanarus years ago that was much bigger and he would literally throw the sand out of his Tupperware across the tank and I just kept refilling it for him every week. They are amazing fish though and almost worth the sandbox. Almost lol
Sorry, hard to tell from pic… wasn’t sure from your post.
I think that they want/need a sand bed, and I’m with you, no Tupperware sand box in my tank!
