Well, the new tank is set. I ran all the hoses and loops and plugs and drilled the tanks stand for electric and installed the GFCI in the wall.
I hooked it all upa nd the moment i turned it on, I knew I didn't have enough GPH.

There is only 3.5 feet of head presssure, but there are several right angles and such. I can't remember how to claculate all of that in...

Anyway, now I need more flow. I do not want to drill the tank for a closed loop mostly because I don't want to spend the extra money on another pump. So I need about 1000 GPH and I can just use the ball valve to turn it down.

The LFS has a Gen-X PCX-40 I can trade-up for. It looks a lot like an Iwaki.
But never heard of it.
Can someone tell me more about it?
I searched for it, but not many posts out there...

The GenX is similiar to the Iwaki, but they aren't as quiet or as reliable (per personal experience). The PCX-4 is closest to the Iwaki 50. I used it for a year and it performed well, but the Iwaki was definitely quieter. If you aren't using it in any pressure-rated application, the Iwaki 40RLXT would do.

BTW, the PCX-4 is formally known as the MAK4 / MAK-4. You should get a lot of search results under that old name.

Thanks Len, Snowman....

I want to steer away from Mag drives. I have heard too many "hit or miss" stories about them. Looks like you got one of the good ones though Snowman..
Iwaki is good, but they are proud of them, and I am looking to spend a little less.

I thought about the Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC. The biggest thing that struck me was the size. 10.5" X 5.5 X 5.25 fits exactly the only spot I could mount an external pump.
Looks like it has a pretty good rating, and I have not heard too much bad about it.
Anyone had any personal experience?

I recall it has a cooling fan (could be wrong) so you'll need at least 2" of additional length. That might rule it out. I've used LG pumps .... they're workhorses, pretty quiet, but my old ones required oiling :?

Can an external pump be hung above the sump in the cabinet, or does it need to be below the waterlevel of the sump so it is primed?

I think I may need to stick to a submersible pump. The only way I could put an external in the cabinet is to hang it above the sump.

Got my eye on an Ocean Runner 6500.
