Metal Halide Bulbs

I have a 24 inch Current-Usa Outer Orbit, it has one 150W 10K metal halide bulb (double ended) and 130 watts of PC actinics. It is time to replace the MH bulb in my tank and I was looking for some suggestions to what brand of bulb and what type ( like a 10K or a 14k). I was looking into either a 12K or 14K, but I do not know of a good brand. In my tank I have mostly SPS coral.

My personal favorite is the Ushio 14K. It is much closer to a 10K though, so if you like a blue look, this is not the lamp for you.

Try the Phoenix 14K which a lot of reefer seem to like. Your lamp choice is a matter of personal preference. Depending on the colors of your various corals and what you want to highlight it will determine your lamp of choice.

I am usually a big fan of the phoenix for astheitcs, but recently hooked up an old XM 20k and im loving it. Its pretty mellow for a halide but Ive heard good growth, and good asthetics as well without some of the extreme actinics found in the phoenix

g-man 14k or ushio 14k, phoenix is way to blue IMO it is more 20k than 14k.

I agree. FYI the Giessman and the Ushio are virtually identical lamps and the Ushio is nearly half the price
