for 400w bulbs, single ended is the better choice because of the huge bulb selection.

There are not alot of good Double ended 400w bulbs to choose from.

I have always used mogul based bulbs....For a few reasons....First off the selection is huge as opposed to de. If you go to 400 watt the choice of de are extremely limited. With se you do not have to use a glass sheild which all de have no choice for the uv protection....The people that say the de have greater "punch" well that is so debatable....in my opinion negligable...Get yourself a good reflector as well...Lumenbright, lumin arc, lumen max...they are all top notch that produce very good par's. And finnally se are cheaper...
