def agree on this one :) I like buying a frag and seeing it grow into a big colony. yes it takes time and alot of it but thats the point of this hobby, is to settle down with what corals you want and grow them out. Its almost like a garden. you seed the plant and watch them grow out.

CORAL FARMER! There's a new name for reefberry

jzhou. i think that is a great method of selecting a colony but how often will you know exactly how long it takes to grow into a colony. especially buying from a LFS. they give erroneous information all the time. I dont think everyone knows exact timeline for each frag. I understand the response will be you shouldn't be buying something you don't have information on. most people are general on the rule and act like they don't break the rules.

SPS colonies are often wild or maricultured. The chance of survival in captivity is MUCH lower than an aquacultured frag.

LPS colonies may not be more difficult than frags. But with LPS prices these days I'd rather spend money on an assortment of frags than one colony.

Plus I enjoy watching them grow into mature colonies. Much more rewarding.

Also, If I bought a bunch of colonies and had an insta-reef. I would get bored.
