Just set up my sump & filled my tank up with fresh water to test it.
It works but I have 2 problems;

1. The strainer on the overflow is making a horific 'SUCKING SOUND.

2. The water going into the sump is also making a loud noise.
The overflow pipe is about 6" from the water level. Should it go into the water???

I have 90 gal Aquarium, 30 gal sump, Mag 9 pump.

I do not have an overflow box, my tank is drilled near the top and I have a 1" bulkhead. inside the tank I have an elbow with a cone shaped strainer. I planned on moving the angle of the elbow, to adjust the water level??

Ok does it look like this. The piece off the back is an external durso, It makes the drain quiet without that, with just an elbow you drain will always make that loud sucking sound

Thank you so much for the info, Kinda far to travel to you But REALLY apprecaite the offer. It seems simple enough to make, I will give it a try. The link you have says to put a small hole in the end cap, Looks like you have a valve??
THANKS AGAIN!

Yea i actually removed the valve and have a piece of 3/8" tubing in there instead, it wasn't able to get enough air before and was gurgling. As for making them its a piece of cake exactly what the drawing shows minus the parts i mentioned. Good Luck

OK I have Durso set up and pump is running, but still having some problems. I can't seem to get it adjusted right
I made durso with hole through end cap & pipe so I can adjust.

I adjust the hole big enough in durso, so overflow pipe does not make noise, and then the water level on my return section of my sump goes too low.
Then I adust the elbow / strainer inside my tank on overflow and it seems to work fine..... For a while then I get "slurpping" sounds again. So I adjust the Durso opening again. Then water in sump goes too low again... so I add water...
I have been running for a week making adjustments in
1. Durso opening
2. strainer elbow angle
3. water level in sump.
I CAN'T GET IT RIGHT!! ( it will be OK for a while 1 - 5 hours, then it will start slurping again or the water in sump goes too low) HELP!! IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
ANY HELP OR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WILL BE APPRECIATED

Tom, any chance you can shoot us a picture of the durso, the pipe running to your filter sock the sump setup (I know what it looks like  )? This way we can see exactly how you've got the tubing/pipes durso set up.
