Yesterday my largest mushroon started to kind of fold up and almost looked as if it was going to start to move locations on its own. Later in the day there were 2 bulbous protrusions on its underside. Today it is completely detached from the rock and when I tried to place it on a new rock white strands started to come out of where its mouth is. They almost look like fine fine strands of spaghetti. Any ideas of what is up? It was kind of high in the tank so I thought maybe to much light and moved it to the bottom. All parameters are fine and all the other corals in the tank or doing well as are the 2 fish. Any thoughts would be of great service.

When a mushroom splits, it shrivels up a and folds over first. You said it's large, so it might be splitting.

Also, the white strings are normal. I don't remember if they are excrement or mucus or eggs. I read about them years ago. All my mushrooms do that now and then.

The white strands are mesentery glands. These are for digestion and for defense. The mushroom was probaby irked when you tried to lodge it in place. It's nothing to worry about.

Your mushroom probably was just asexually reproducing. Sometimes they bud off several offsprings and detach to relocate by wherever the current takes them. It can happen without any motive other then reproduction, or it happens when the shroom is not content where it is due to some environmental stress.

It's really nothing I'd lose sleep over.
