my cute little sea hare, what to give him now

ok well i got this sea hare, many of my friends find him to be ugly but he is so CUUUUUUUTE to me. he has a face only a mother could love. LOL.

well anyways he seems to be doing great in my tank but his supply of algae is depleting and what can i do to supplemnt afterwards.

im trying to get articles and they say to give him kelp. where can i find that? and is this ok to give him.

Since you clearly illustrated you're the mother, whos the father? LOL

Why not get a refugium and grow him some caulerpa? it grows like a weed and will lower your nutrients

well first, unfortunatly dont know who the daddy is, but hey he is still my baby.

i read liveaquaria.com and they stated to give him caulerpa or if that is not easliy accessible to give him parboiled lettuce or dried kelp.

the only thing i found in stores is dried seaweed. Or is that the same stuff.

amethyst, how big is he? and do you have a picture? i saw my first sea hare in a LR tank at a lfs the other day...my first reactions was ewww, then the more i looked at him, the cuter he became what size tank do you have? the one i saw was huge.

I have a bunch of sawblade caulerpa if you need some. You'd have to get to Park Slope or the UES before Tuesday if you'd like it as I'm leaving on vacation.

Mine used to eat the dried seaweed until he ended up chop meat getting stuck in the tunze while I was away.

The one on my avatar laster a couple of months in my tank, sea hare don't live long. I still don't know if mine died because was his time to go or because of starvation.

right now mine is hanging around the seaweed that i placed in the tank.

I have two of them, and I have FINALLY kicked my hair algae. Even though there's no visible algae in the tank, they are always foraging, and I think they get enough food to survive by scouraging the new algae before it grows back enough to see. I've tried to feed them Nori, but they won't touch it.

Great animals though, my last one got sucked into a powerhead after my urchin knocked off the guard. It was like something out of final destination 3.

Since they are vegetarian creatures, I you going in the right way offering the sea hare some algae. What type are you using? Does the sea hare seem to like it?

At the time I had mine, I didn't have any macro in the tank, and the sea hare eat stuff from the glass and the rocks. Sea hare are also well know to bury themselves under the sand for food. My sea hare went under the sand for the first time the day he died

The sand bad had plenty of food for the sea hare, and this is the reason why I am not sure of the death cause which might have been natural.

Sea hare lifespan average is 1 year.
