Hi. New to NYC and this forum. I am setting up a frag tank and need some advice and tips. I just picked up two 40g breeder tanks. What kind of filtration can I or should I run? I will probably just use one tank for now. Is a sump/refugium necessary? It would be much easier if I didn't have to plumb out of the bottom so I can get a stand easier. I have heard some people modifiying aquaclear 110 filters to make hob refugiums. Or there are Hang On Refugium with Protein Skimmer (http://www.aquatraders.com/Hang-On-Refugium-with-Protein-Skimmer-14in-p/43016.htm / http://www.aquatraders.com/Hang-On-Refugium-with-Protein-Skimmer-24in-p/43017.htm). Also what about canister filters or regular filters? Do I need a protein skimmer or only with fish (and what about having say two clownfish)? I was planning some DIY LED's for lighting.

Sorry for all the questions just trying to sort this all out. I have spent hours searching the web and various forums but have found as many different answers and no clear setup instructions despite the 40g breeder being highly recommended.

A frag tank should be treated the same as any display tank you set up IMO Its just a smaller tank to keep frags in when you cut them from your colonies . If your just starting out, I really don't see the reason for a frag tank, just put the frags in your main tank and watch them grow
