Hello Everyone and Merry christmas and happy holidays to all.
As some of you might have read in some of my earlier posts I'm upgrading my old established (10+yrs) FOWLR to more of a lps, softie fowlr tank. I've recently upgraded the lighting to 2-250w 12k MH and added another life reef overflow to my 110gal aga. I'll be adding a phosban reactor and am now able to crank up my iwaki 70 full throttle.
Now I'll admit I've always been a firm believer of "if it ain't broke don't fix it," as I've done more damage trying to make things better with my tank than if I had just let it be. And since the only time I've had any signifigant lose of livestock was during the blackout a couple of yrs ago and when my chiller broke and the temp went to 101* for a couple of days. Needless to say I rarely checked water parameters except when I mixed new water to making sure salinity and temp were good. This has all served me well in the past, but I've decided as a New Years resolution to step it up in my quest for better coral husbandry.
Now I found my old Salifert test kits, & I mean old (1993). Don't flame! Im ordering new ones today. But these are the readings I'm getting. "If" these are correct what would you do to bring them up to specs for a successful reef.
SG (Refractometer)= 34ppm
pH (probe) taken 10am w lites still off=8.7
Alk=2.85
dKH=8
Ca=390
NO2=0ppm
NO3=10 (assuming it's corrert because my dsb is at least 13yrs old)
PO4=0-.01 (suspect,(should be higher I think)because I have a good bioload and feed daily)
temp=79*-81*F
I've been dosing Kent Marine Kalwasser with an Aquadose
and add liquid Ca weekly
I've never had TONS of coraline but seems lately I have 0.
Please any suggestions for my tank in the new yr. Thank you --Rob--
