You can drill the back of the tank with a dremel and make an overflow out of acrylic if you are looking to make it reef ready. Just make sure the glass is not tempered. I think Barr Aquatics or Austin Oceans offers some nice overflow boxes or you can get one at:

http://www.wetdryfilter.com/internal_overflow_boxes.htm

There are plenty of threads on MR or reefcentral which go into detail on how to drill a hole.

I think House of Fish drills tanks so I would pm them to drill it for you or go to a local glass shop.

You can also get a lifereef box and not drill the tank.

Hope this helps.

My first tank was a 42 hex.

I would drill the bottom of the tank and run the overflow up through the center and stack rock around it. If you have big enough filtration on the other system, just plumb it in!

Oooooooooooooooooooooo I see. You can't plumb into another system and you can plumb it in the stand.

Even so, I would run the plumbing through the bottom, perhaps not in the center, but surely through the bottom and then use spa flex to go wherever.

Just use a hole saw to make a hole in the cabinet to put the plumbing through

Drill it.....you won't be disappointed.

Leo, most (not all, but most) tanks are tempered bottoms. Unless they're factory drilled before tempering the glass, then you can't drill the bottom. Normally they have a sticker on the bottom reading, 'Tempered glass, do not drill'. Be aware, not all tanks with tempered bottoms have that sticker though.
