i currently run four 110w vho bulbs, and am in the process of hooking up my new dual 400w 6500k metal halide system. i have a 24"deep 90 gal acrylic. i'm worried that a sudden change in light intensity is going to freak everything out. outside of raising to lights as high as possible and bringing them down to the desiralbe level over time,is there anything else i can do to prevent shocking my system?

On one tank I just went from 2 VHOs and 2 NO to 2 175 10000k and 2 VHO.
I leave the VHOs on for 12 hrs and started the MH at one hour a day for the first week two hours the second and so on....
I'm up to three hours now and by the look of my corals I could go longer, but I want to take it slow. Many people here advised me that if the light was too much the corals would let me know.

Note: The MH are in a cannopy so moving them up or down was not an option.

BTW- For the first week the corals started looking really good, but the polyps and shrooms didn't open as much as they use too. About midway through the second week they REALLY got huge!
