I just got a couple new toys to replace my closed loop and reduce the noise level from my open back stand and cramped apartment.
Purchased were 2 Tunze 6025 nano-streams. I'd heard some complaints about these being 1) noisy, and 2) the clips being very breakable.
Wrong on both fronts. Very quiet. And with the clips, unless you were being very reckless (or tunze changed the design already) during installation, they are fine. Removal from the magnet (which are very cool) might be tricky, but doable if patient.
I really wanted to get the 6055 - but for $200 per power head and $250 for the dual controller, I just couldn't stomach it right now. Maybe further down the road.
Also got 6 Aestrea snails. My new nickname for these guys is lawnmower snails. I had green hair algae that I'd been attacking with a toothbrush etc. for a couple weeks now. The six of them have mowed down 20% in 7 hours. Crazy.
