Hi, guys!
I have a planted SW tank, and I have seahorses now. I am getting a bit....disillusioned (?) with them so I am thinking about getting different type of fish. Anyone have a suggestion on a type of fish that does NOT eat algae?

Some blennies, gobies, hawkfish, possibly a dwarf angel, damsel fish, clownfish, dragonets, psuedochromis, anglerfish, lionfish, groupers, and much much more.

That is, most of these do not eat macro algae.

On the other hand, some of these fish would not go well with seahorses if you plan on keeping the horses.

How large is your tank? I agree with cindre: the main thing to consider is fish that will not disturb seahorses too much.

Your seahorse lagoon biotope is plumbed into a larger reef system, right? So, you have a much larger water volume than just he size of the tank ... if you're giving up the horses, why not get a whole mess of shoaling fish like chromis, and keep only them in the tank. They are cool to watch as a large group! Very quick and active.

Chromis are neat but I've tried schools several times over the years and there is a gradual decrease in number till only one remains who is happily swimming around as I speak since doing in his comrades.

Gobies would be neat but if you had algae like C.prolifera in there growing along the substrate most sleeper and shrimp gobies will dig it up. Maybe try a small group of Rainford's or Hector's gobies - awesome little fish just make sure there are no food competitors or large fish.

You could keep most of the smaller gobies with seahorses - I would stay away from mixing hawkfish or any kind of damsel with them. A small Escenius spp. blenny might work.
