i am just curious if their is any negative effect of not having enough sand in my tank. its a 75 gallon and on one side of the tank the sand is probably just shy of 2 inches and on the other side of the tank its like 1 inch if that. its not even on both sides. can i see a bad effect from this? i was contemplating siphoning out all my sand gradually. not sure if i should though.

If you don't have a DSB then 2 inches or less is what is recommended. If you want a bare bottom tank that is ok but you have to decide what look you want. Having sand means having a lot of extra life in the tank and not having it means you won't be able to have animals that require sand.

yea i like the look of sand better i just didn't know if having not enough would be bad for my tank, because on the side where theirs barely any sand theirs a little patch of algae growing cause my friend over fed the tank when i was away. but i guess that would be because of a high nutrient level and nothing to do with how much sand i have i am assuming.
