I think Rich means not moving things around, fiddling with the set-up, not holding off on water changes. The important thing is to have a routine and keep your hands out of the tanks as far as possible!

I went ahead and did a 30% water change this mornign with reef crystals. I did not stir up anything or move any rocks. I am hoping that this might help. I guess it can't hurt. Or can it? My friend that I just spoke to moved his whoel tank to another state. Removed everything and replaced 90% of the water. He said that his corals have never been this good since he did the change. Fish didn;t do that well though.

Hey guys,

I finally got myself a good test kit for magnesium and it turns out that my Magnesium levels are just around 1100 ppm. I am wondering if this could be my problem for losing all the color in my corals? Since then I have raised it to 1500-1600. This has been at this level now for two days. Also, I am not able to dose Mg becasue I am already using all my LiterMeter III pumps, so what is the best product and method to add Magnesium to my tank?

What is the new test kit? What was the old test kit?

It could be your Mg that is de coloring your corals, but it could also be many other things.

What did you use to raise your Mg? Its raised a little high, but it will come down on its own.

I am a little worried you are chasing numbers - fist you were sure it was nutrients, now you seem sure it was the Mg. :D From the information provided, I would leave the tank alone for a month, except for food and let the tank settle down.

I used magnesium sulfate to raise the level. I ordered mag sulfate and mag chloride from bulk reef supply. I should have it in a few days. If this is the issue and you were correct from the start, how long should it take before I notice any change for the better?

Could be fast, could be slow. You shouldn't have to add any more mg for a while.

I suggest leaving the tank alone for at least a month.
