I am upgrading from a 65 gal to a 120 gal mixed reef. LPS and Leathers. Currently I am running a home made downdraft. Looking to upgrade and save some electricity. Trying to keep the budget around $300 or so. I have heard lots of good things about the ASM g3 and replacement parts seem to be readily available. Seems to have a simple design and I have read only good things about the ASM skimmers. I have also been looking into the Octopus Extreme Skimmer Series model 200. Seems to be a more advanced design but is it as reliable? Has anyone had any experience with the octopus extreme? I checked the skimmer thread but did not find any mention of the octopus. Any feed back or other skimmer recomendations in my price range would be appreciated.

the msx is a powerful skimmer but the sicce pumps are what you will need to play with....they first came with mesh modded impellers...not they include the pinwheel impeller too which helps the startup issues it was having ...overall a great skimmer after a few little tweaks....
i dont think you can go wrong with both types of skimmers
