i vaguely reading an old marine aquaria book back when i was a teen in the 90s from the big flushing library on main st & kiseena.. i forget the name of the guy (spring, jung, something like that) that proposed a really really keep-it-simple method of reef keeping... i dont wanna say fowlr cuz he did stress that inverts like shrimp n snails n hermits didnt have as huge a biomass/bioload on the system as most fish.

anyways his method if i remember correctly, was a barebones LR-based 'eco' tank, that stressed a very low bioload which meant few inverts and even fewer fish, thin sand or plenum depth, lots of live rock and some macroalgae, no mechanical nor chemical filtration, not even skimming nor surface skimming, and airline bubbling for water movement and oxygenation. sounds alot like a rstandalone refugium today doesnt it?

anyone remember who i'm tryin to reference?

i am thinking of setting up a smaller than 30g tank like this for a pair or so of seahorses and/or pipefish... its been on my to do list for ages but i never got around to it it but am contemplating at the same time im getting things together to set up my 55g without overflow that is sitting around empty.

(its just been a recent emergency drama that put things off a bit more.. and ironically it has to do with a fellow reefer from ny! but i'll get into that later when i find a way to do it without disgracefully airing out anyones dirty laundry!) :fishhit:
